Building on our culture of exceptional patient care

HNI Charities is a standalone 501(c)(3) organization created to bring educational, nutritional, environmental, and medical supplies and services to underserved communities in the U.S and abroad

Our Mission

The mission of HNI Charities is to provide educational, nutritional, environmental, and medical supplies and services to underserved communities in the United States and abroad. Our teams focus on patients in rural and remote communities where poverty, distance, and limited infrastructure make it difficult to receive timely care.

Our Story

HNI Healthcare launched HNI Charities as an extension of our commitment to compassionate and patient-centered care and to support the needs of underserved communities beyond our hospitals walls. HNI Charities has formed valuable partnerships in Central America that support our commitment to provide recurring medical missions in the region.

Today, HNI clinicians, translators, and other non-clinical team members volunteer their time to deliver care where it is needed most, while donor support funds travel, logistics, and clinical supplies.

What We Do

International Medical Missions

HNI Charities organizes medical missions to rural Central America in partnership with organizations such as Honduras Good Works, Summit in Honduras,. Our recent mission trips have been focused on the rural communities of Honduras.

A typical medical mission includes 30+ clinicians, translators, and administrative staff. A typical mission will span + 7 days, include visits to 20 or more remote communities and provide care for approximately 2,000 patients. Clinicians will provide minor procedures, essential medicines, and core health education. Since 2022, HNI Charities has provided care for thousands of patients across the region's most underserved communities.

Community Health Education and Local Capacity Building

Beyond one-time clinic visits, HNI Charities invests in community health education and local capacity. In collaboration with partners, our teams train and equip local "Health Guardians" and other volunteers who help monitor chronic conditions, keep simple records, and coordinate follow-ups with visiting missions or local clinics. Education on nutrition, hygiene, child health, chronic disease management, and medication adherence is integrated into our mission trips to promote sustainable improvements in community health.

Supplies, Nutrition, and Environmental Support

Our missions include the distribution of essential medicines, vitamins, and anti-parasitic treatments to children and adults, tailored to the needs identified in each community. HNI Charities has also developed partnerships to provide education & solutions for clean water, sanitation, and generally maintaining safe community environments, recognizing that health is shaped by more than clinical care alone. We help address both the immediate symptoms and the underlying conditions that drive poor health by combining clinical services with targeted supplies and environmental supports.

Future Initiatives

HNI Charities' long-term vision is to expand to as many as four mission trips per year, deepening current partnerships while thoughtfully exploring new opportunities beyond Honduras. As our donor base grows and more HNI clinicians volunteer their time, we aim to reach additional underserved communities and broaden the scope of educational and preventive services we can provide.

Additionally, through a generous donor, HNI Charities has been able to acquire mobile dental equipment to expand the dental services we provide in each of the villages we visit. This makes a significant difference to the health and nutrition of these communities.

How Your Support Is Used

Every dollar donated to HNI Charities helps fund mission-critical needs such as travel, lodging, clinic logistics, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies. HNI physicians and team members donate their time and expertise, allowing the majority of charitable dollars to flow directly to patient care and community health initiatives. By pairing volunteerism with responsible financial stewardship, we maximize impact for the communities we serve.

Ways to Get Involved & Governance

For Individual Donors and Business Partners

Sponsor Mission Costs

Individuals and organizations can underwrite key components of a mission, from airfare and ground transportation to pharmacy supplies and diagnostic equipment. Recent missions have been fully funded through a mix of personal gifts, employee payroll deductions, participants paying their own way, and contributions from vendors, law firms, and other business partners.

Corporate Partnerships

HNI Charities welcomes sustained partnerships with companies seeking to align their philanthropic efforts with high-impact global health work. Corporate partners can support specific trips, sponsor medical or technology needs, or collaborate with us to design programs that reflect shared values and priorities.

For Nonprofits and Health Organizations

Partner with HNI Charities

HNI Charities' model combines volunteer clinical teams and donor-funded trips with the local expertise of established, community-based organizations. We seek partners that maintain year-round presence, understand local context, and can help ensure continuity of care between brigades. To explore collaboration, organizations can contact us to discuss mission fit, community needs, and shared goals.

Leadership and Governance

HNI Charities operates as a separate charitable entity affiliated with HNI Healthcare and governed by a dedicated Board of Directors. The Board provides strategic oversight, approves mission priorities, and ensures responsible stewardship of donor funds. Legal and compliance support is provided in coordination with experienced advisors, and a clinical advisory board, including HNI's medical leadership, helps identify and evaluate mission opportunities. We are committed to transparency and accountability in how funds are raised, allocated, and reported, and we will continue to highlight outcomes and community stories as the program grows.

For HNI (and Network / Partner) Clinicians and Employees

Serve on a Mission

HNI physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, scribes, translators, and non-clinical team members are invited to apply to join upcoming medical mission trips. Volunteers should be prepared for long days in mountainous terrain, basic accommodations, and a highly team-based environment focused on delivering safe, thoughtful care with limited resources.

Give Through Your Paycheck

HNI employees can support HNI Charities through convenient payroll deductions that provide a steady stream of funding for flights, lodging, medications, and essential supplies. Even modest recurring contributions, combined across the organization, help fully fund trips without drawing on HNI Healthcare's operating budget.
